Not My Toronto
This looks lie a scene out of Beirut. This photo was shot a few hours ago on Queen street, just down the road from John street, where the City TV building is. It appears that there were no real protesters involved in this incident, Just opportunistic hooligans who have made a mockery of the principals of non violent protest.
And let me make myself quite clear. I believe fundamentally in the right to free speech, in the right to peaceful protest. But clearly the events of today has shown that these animals are interested in nothing more than causing problems, destroying property, and engaging in violence.
I am appalled at the behavior of some of my fellow Torontonians. To my knowledge three police cars have been set on fire. Seventy five people have been arrested, but amazingly there have been no serious injury's
Yet.
This is not my city.
I have to add that I am so proud of the incredibly professional and restrained response of the police. If I was walking around with a baton and a taser today there would have been some very seriously injured "protesters" by now.

It's nuts. I've been glued to the news feeds for hours now.
On the other hand, there's some great footage of armour and horses in action. Check out the bird's eye view of the mounted unit moving in nice disciplined formations around 21:00 in this clip. . Even when a horse trips, they stay organized. I saw them do a demo of these formations at the police museum about five years ago. It's very cool to watch the mounted unit perform under pressure.
