Hurry Up and Wait.

Last week It looked like things where picking up at my "main job". This week (thus far I've had one client) sucks - I don't think any thing else is lined up for this week.

I left my job at the jym for another position (because of lack of work) at a small spa. Its been a week and a half at the spa and I have had one client.

I have a surgery and a course coming up in January and so it would be in my best interest to wait until after that is done to start looking, but part of me wants for just bail now.

I've spent six hundred dollars on creating a mailing and purchasing stamps and envelopes. I am irritated at the lack of progress, and I know that my frustration is being fed by stress about this upcoming surgery, weird drugs I'm going to be put on, and stress that the Hagis is going through at work.

I should be calmer and I shouldn't make any moves before the new year. Some things are easier said than done.

grusom morning

I think I can add "crime scene clean up" to my resume after this morning.

What the hell am I talking about?

This morning in front of my office there were red spatters all over the side walk.

I asked my boss what was up and he seemed to think it was some kind of Halloween prank. I recognized the red spatter for what it was.

Blood.

Boss-man thought I was wrong. I told him that if it was real when we poured water on it the blood would start to lift and the yellow of the plasma would be partly visible. he dared me to pour water on it. so I did.

That's blood.

lots of it.

Boss-Man and I applied more buckets of hot soapy water to the side walk, and I scrubbed the sidewalk with a broom. The blood trail started behind the building at a broken window, in front if the office it looked like the bleeder paced back and forth for some time and then crossed the street, where they disappear, and I hope someone crawled into an ambulance.

Later in the afternoon the fire department came and cleaned up the blood that we didn't get to.

Weird

Serendipity

I am registered, insured and employed. I can’t believe how quickly and how well things have moved.

I am working three days a week in a Chiropractic office in the “Gay Village”. I like the office, any my co-worker / boss is great, but it seems that the last Massage therapist took all of his clients with him when he left and business is terribly slow. There are a number of things I am doing to put things in to place to drum up business, and I have no doubt that soon enough there will be a decent flow of clients.

In the mean time I have been looking for another part time job, and for quite a while I thought I hand found one. I applied to and got a job at a “BIG TORONTO SPA” At first I was really proud of the fact that the “BIG TORONTO SPA” wanted me, but the more I thought about it the more I was put off by the “BIG TORONTO SPA”.

The “BIG TORONTO SPA” is a really corporate place. Lots of rules. “BIG TORONTO SPA” wanted to pay me by the hour, not by the massage. It might sound good, but when you think about it, it kind of blows. They wanted to pay me considerably less than what I would be making if they were paying me a split. If I was going to wind up sitting around for a great deal of time that wouldn’t be a bad deal, but I know that “BIG TORONTO SPA” was going to work me to the bone. Another thing that has put me off is the fact that the “BIG TORONTO SPA” wanted me to work Saturdays and Sundays.

I hate working weekends.

I decided I would take the Job at “BIG TORONTO SPA” and keep looking for more suitable work, but the closer I got to my start date the less happy I was about my decision. On one hand, I need the money, On the other hand its pretty shitty to take a job you know full well you are going to dump the instant you have a chance.

After a lot of agonizing, and a conversation with the haggis, my dad and my step mom I decided last night to sen send the “BIG TORONTO SPA” a “dear John” letter.

This morning I left the house wondering if I had done the right thing. In my travels I noticed a spa. I got off the bus, walked in and asked if they needed an RMT. The owner interviewed me on the spot, asked me to do a practical and told me that she wanted me to work for her.

When I got to work today I got a phone call from the gym that I belong too. They want me to come in for an interview tomorrow.

I guess dumping “BIG TORONTO SPA” was a good move!

Good Bye! and thanks for all the coffee!

Today was my last day at Starbucks!

The store closes on October 10th and I was told by the Manager today that the District Managers are insisting that People are available to work at least 16 hours a week.

With school that is a big NO-CAN-DO.

So I said goodbye to all my caffeine-mates and emptied my locker.
That's it.

No more coffee freebees.
Ah well. On to bigger and better things.

The End.. and The Beginning

The days of china town Starbucks are numbered. On October 10th our store will close down once and for all.

That would seem like a sucky thing, but not 20 minutes after I got the phone call from my manager telling me that the store was closing, I got another phone call from my Chiropractor buddy.

Chris wants me to work in his office helping him with filing, paper work, and helping him to set up a web site. Eventually he is plannng on expanding his practice and is is likely that by the time I get my license I will have a place to practice.

I cant quite believe how serendipitous this is. Every job I have ever had (with the excepting of the starbucks job) I have had to fight for.

It seems that this whole massage thing might really be my path.

I really cant explain every thing falling into my lap like this. I almost feel like ducking, because my luck is generally so bad that I almost feel like I should be waiting for the karmic backlash of having so much good luck.

I really need to shake this feeling.

Snitch

Yup, that's me.

I called the cops on Sunday from work and told them about the illegal night club/booze can across the road from the store.

The thing that prompted this was the very out of control young girl (Early 20's) across the street, who seemed at times to be doing something in between, mime, weird interpretive dance and convulsions. At one point she attempted to put her purse on like a shoe.

The cops caught up to the girl and questioned her, turns out she was at another illegal booze can just down the road.

How charming.

Starshmucks

I find it entirely ironic that I am writing this post while sitting in a starbucks cafe.

It is looking very much like the Starbucks that I work at is going get closed. I have twice now walked into other stores, told the staff where I worked and had them say: "Isn't your store being shut down?" I have spoken to the manager, and she says that they are in discussion with the land lord trying to get out of the lease.

Could be a few months, could be a few years, but I think it will happen. Which will be a shame really, because I have really grown to like the quirkiness of the area, our regulars and the staff. The new manager is great, and all of the current shift supervisors are really quite cool.

I'm sure I'll get moved to another store, but I am hoping that I will be moved to the same store that my current manager goes too.

We'll see.

In another example of the quirkiness of the neighborhood that my store is in, we have discovered that right across the street from us is a booze can.

We're all assuming its a booze can anyway. At Seven in the morning I see very drunk (or stoned) people staggering out of the place. The music is so loud I can hear it across the street. Our weekend mornings are generally very boring so this has added some entertainment value.
